The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyepong, has cautioned officers and soldiers of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) against the growing spread of misinformation, particularly reports linked to payments for foreign missions.
Speaking at the Ghana Armed Forces’ end-of-year interdenominational religious service at Burma Camp in Accra, Lt. Gen. Agyepong described the circulation of unverified information within the military as troubling and potentially dangerous.
According to him, such false narratives are often deliberately circulated to breed mistrust, dissatisfaction and division among personnel. He stressed that misinformation, especially when shared through social media and informal channels, poses a threat to discipline, unity and morale within the Armed Forces.
The CDS therefore urged all ranks to verify information from credible sources before sharing it, warning that the unchecked spread of false claims could weaken cohesion within the military.
Touching on welfare matters, Lt. Gen. Agyepong assured officers and soldiers that the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces remains committed to improving their living and working conditions. He acknowledged existing accommodation challenges and indicated that concrete steps are being taken to address them.
He disclosed that from 2026, the military expects significant improvements in housing, with plans underway to construct more than 2,000 accommodation units across military garrisons nationwide to help reduce the housing deficit.
The CDS further revealed plans for the Ghana Armed Forces to harness its internal expertise and technical capacity to establish income-generating ventures aimed at supporting operations and enhancing personnel welfare.
Lt. Gen. Agyepong also reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ readiness to defend Ghana’s territorial integrity and safeguard national security, while warning that the spread of false information about the military undermines public confidence and national stability.
The end-of-year interdenominational religious service is an annual event organised by the Ghana Armed Forces to promote reflection, thanksgiving and unity among personnel as the year draws to a close.
