Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has cautioned members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against engaging in tribal, religious, or discriminatory remarks that could damage the image of the party and make it unattractive to the public.
Dr. Bawumia gave the caution while addressing party supporters in Wa during his campaign tour of the Upper West Region. He described as unfortunate comments that label sections of the party as “slaves,” stressing that such remarks have no place in the NPP.
According to him, the party does not recognise any form of hierarchy based on ethnicity, religion, or background, emphasizing that all members are equal.
He warned that individuals who make tribal or bigoted statements are not harming him personally, but rather undermining the image and unity of the party.
Dr. Bawumia urged party members to reject divisive rhetoric and called for unity, noting that tribalism and religious discrimination are contrary to the values of the NPP. He stressed that no member has special entitlement simply because of their region or background.
He further appealed for unity within the party, stating that divisions based on tribe or religion are alien to the party’s principles and must be avoided.
Reaffirming his leadership style, the former Vice President said he remains committed to respecting all party members and fostering unity. He noted that his campaign approach is based on respect and civility, adding that he avoids insults because unity after internal elections is essential for the party’s progress.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the success of the NPP depends on collective effort and mutual respect among its members.
