A 68-year-old British national has tragically died after being shot during a robbery in Tema, an industrial city near Accra, Ghana.
According to police reports, the victim, identified as Ashraf Qarmar Parvez, was attacked on Friday evening while attempting to prevent the theft of his mobile phone at a local drinking spot. He was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Ghanaian authorities say six men were involved in the attack and fled the scene on motorbikes. A 9mm spent shell casing was recovered, and investigators have begun interviewing eyewitnesses to aid in the manhunt for the suspects.
The UK Foreign Office confirmed that it is providing consular support to Mr. Parvez’s family following his death.
While the incident has sparked concerns about public safety in Tema, police officials have described the shooting as an isolated case, assuring residents that investigations are ongoing and security has been heightened in the area.
